According to Atsushi Senju, a cognitive neuroscientist who studies the biological and cultural aspects of eye contact at Birkbeck, the University of London’s Center for Brain and Cognitive Development,  "Only actual eye contact fully activates those parts of the brain that allow us to more acutely and accurately process another person’s feelings and intentions."  (From New York Times Sunday Review article by  KATE MURPHY MAY 16, 2014)


Which brings me back to my texting rant. I see more and more couples, in my office waiting room, at restaurants, waiting for a doctor, sitting and staring at their phones rather than interacting with one another.


Take a minute, put the devices down, look up, and engage in a conversation with someone you love.
